Applications are invited for a highly motivated Research Assistant – Land Management Social Science to work within the Social, Economic and Geographical Sciences Group (SEGS) to support research activities relating to the analysis of agricultural, environmental and rural development issues, with a focus on agricultural knowledge systems for the first year. The successful candidate will join a team of Research Assistants providing a set of complementary skills that can be called upon by colleagues in SEGS. The candidate will initially be assigned to two on-going research projects funded by Scottish Government and the European Commission: ProAKIS (Prospects for Farmers’ Support: Advisory Services in European AKIS) and FarmPath (Farming Transitions: Pathways towards regional sustainability of agriculture in Europe). Work will involve collaboration with other Social Scientists at the James Hutton Institute and partner organisations across Europe.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain and add content to the project web-sites, undertake qualitative interviews, search secondary sources, for example, to characterise agricultural knowledge systems in the United Kingdom and Ireland, write reports and other material for non-academic audiences, and enter data into qualitative data analysis programmes and referencing software.
This post is based in Aberdeen.
